Rumor – Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone With Android 3.0 Gingerbread

Android platform has done very impressive job so far with smartphones but only thing that it seriously lacks in comparison with iPhone is the gaming. Android supports good graphics and Froyo 2.2 coming up with full support to openGL, but android developers have not been able to deliver the quality games like Apple iOS delivers. But this might change because Engadget has a rumor from one of their reliable sources that Sony Ericsson is working on a gaming phone based on Android 3.0 Gingerbread and it will look like PSP, so that user will enjoy the PlayStation platform on the phone.

The device shown above is only a mockup, but it gives you an idea what the device might look like when it comes out. Engadget reports:

It seems that Sony Ericsson — a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device — is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google’s mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we’ve got the goods on it.

This new phone will have 1GHz snapdragon processor, large high resolution display and qwerty keyboard. Display rumored to be around 3.7 inches to 4.1 inches. This phone also have PSP like controls for better gaming experience with long touch pad for analog controls. The form factor will be on the lines of Xperia X10 and of course it will be powered by Android 3.0 Gingerbread. Games for this device will be available on Android dedicated market. Graphics quality on this phone is rumored to be as good as we seen on PlayStation and PSP, We don’t know yet know its release date but it might be for the October 2010 release.

If this rumor out to be true, then it will give Android huge boost and alarm for the rivals like Apple’s iOS and upcoming Windows Phone 7. [via Engadget]
